Clean books make quiet tax seasons.Brandon Mondragon · Founder

Sound familiar?

Pick the one that's closest to you. These are the questions I hear on the first call.

I never really know which jobs made money and which ones lost it.

Without job-level costing, the job you think was a winner can be the one quietly losing money. I track profit per job so you can bid the next one knowing your numbers.

1099 season sneaks up on me every year.

Late or messy 1099s mean penalties and a January scramble. Clean books all year mean they go out on time, every year.

I'm profitable, so why is my tax bill so high?

Once profit is steady, staying a sole proprietor can mean paying more self-employment tax than you need to. The right entity setup is worth running the numbers on. Most contractors are never told to look.

Slammed all night, but nothing's left at month-end.

A few points of food or labor cost is the difference between a good month and break-even. Track both every month and you know exactly where the money went.

Tips, payroll, and sales tax are a monthly headache.

Each has its own rules and deadlines, and mistakes get expensive fast. Handled correctly and on time, they stop being something you think about.

My POS never matches my bank.

If the numbers don't reconcile, every pricing and staffing decision is a guess. Matched monthly, your books finally tell you the truth.

I set money aside for taxes and it's still never enough.

We work out your real quarterly number from your actual income, then pay it on time. April stops being a surprise.

Should I be an S corp? Do I even need an LLC?

Sometimes. Sometimes it costs more than it saves. I run your numbers before anyone files paperwork, so the structure you end up with is one that actually does something for you.

My bookkeeping is a shoebox and a spreadsheet.

That works until a letter shows up and you're digging through receipts. I clean it up once, then keep it clean every month, so every deduction you're entitled to is documented and ready.

I have a rental and I'm not sure I'm tracking the right things.

Rent, repairs, mortgage interest, depreciation. I keep the books by property so the return is right and the numbers are ready when you refinance or sell.

I sold some stock and have no idea what I owe.

We figure out the gain, what's short-term versus long-term, and whether an estimated payment is due before the deadline instead of a penalty after it.

I just want my return done right, by someone I can reach.

That's most of my individual clients. You get a return, a plain-English summary of what it means for next year, and one person to message when a question comes up.

How it works

  1. Book a free 30-minute call.

We talk about your business and what's been stressing you out. You leave with a recommended package and a price range, whether or not you decide to work with me.

  2. Get your flat quote in writing.

Within two business days of the call, usually sooner. No hourly billing, no surprise invoices.

  3. I take it from there.

Catch-up first if you're behind. Then clean books every month and tax planning before the deadline, not after it.

Tax preparation and planning

For business owners and individuals. No monthly package required.

A return with me is not hand over your documents, here's your e-file, see you next year. I read your whole file. You get the return, plus a written package: what I found, what it means for you, and what to do before next year. And you have me all year, not just in April.

That's the work the fee covers. A single W-2 return starts at $500; business, rental, and investment returns are quoted on the forms and schedules involved. You get the exact number in writing before I start, and it doesn't change mid-project.

Every return includes
  • Federal and state filing
  • Written findings and notes specific to your situation
  • Next steps you can act on: withholding, estimated payments, entity, deductions
  • Year-round access to me when a question comes up
  • Documentation kept audit-ready in your secure portal
  • Final price confirmed before I start

Individuals pay before filing. Business owners can set up a payment plan. Monthly bookkeeping clients get priority scheduling during tax season.

I'm Brandon. I run this practice alone, on purpose.

Every return, every reconciliation, every message goes through me. Nothing gets handed off, and nothing gets lost between people. I grew up in the Bay Area and have called San Diego home since 2021. I'm an SDSU accounting graduate and a CTEC Registered Tax Preparer, and I work with owner-operated businesses here in San Diego and remotely across California.

I went this direction instead of corporate accounting because I like working with small business owners. Most of them hear from their tax person once a year, in April, when it's too late to change anything. I'd rather you hear from me in October, while there's still time to do something about it.

Questions people ask before they book

Can you just do my taxes, without monthly bookkeeping?

Yes. Tax returns are open to everyone. Monthly clients get priority scheduling during the season, but you don't need a package to work with me.

How does pricing work, and is there a minimum?

Bookkeeping is a flat monthly fee starting at $500. Returns start at $500 for a single W-2 and go up with the forms and schedules involved. You get the exact number in writing before I start, and it doesn't change mid-project.

When does it make sense to hand off the books?

Usually when you're behind, when you're guessing at your tax bill, or when you're spending Sunday nights on it. If you're behind right now, catch-up comes first, then monthly.

How do we communicate? What changes day to day?

Everything runs through your secure client portal: documents, messages, and your monthly numbers. Nothing sensitive goes over email or text. I get view-only access to your bank feeds, and once a month you get your financials and any questions from me in one place.

Who is not a good fit?

Anyone shopping for the cheapest return possible, or anyone who needs representation in an IRS audit. I'm not licensed for representation and I'll say so up front so you can plan for it.

Let's look at your numbers.

Text or call for a quick question. Anything sensitive goes through the secure portal once we're set up. Not ready to talk? Start with the free Tax Advisory Readiness Guide.
